Based in Lagos, the Strategic Partnerships Officer: West Africa is responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining relationships with relevant TC Africa stakeholders in the West Africa region.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
OUTPUT 1: University Relations
- Work with all levels in West African universities to manage and build strong relations to foster academic network development and brand building of TC Africa
- Deliver benefits to universities including:
- Growing the contributing academic network
- Building relationships with media and communications teams within universities to ensure ongoing recruitment of academics and sustainable funding
- Share metrics and data to show audience engagement and reach of academics within the university
- Build academic network for TC Africa through:
- Growing and maintaining expert call out database for West Africa, and growing the usefulness of this product
- Sending out expert call-out
- Working with research, media and communications teams to find opportunities to promote TC Africa to new academics within target universities
- Work with relevant TC Africa stakeholders to develop a longer term university development strategy for West Africa including potentially towards the acquisition of funding universities in the region
- Research and build a body of knowledge regarding African tertiary environment to inform expansion and growth strategy
OUPUT 2: Training Function
- Support the Strategic Partnerships Manager in delivering training benefits to target universities and research institutions in the region
- Support the delivery of additional training required to meet annual donor objectives, including, amongst others:
- Training to specific cohorts (e.g. early career scholars, black women scholars etc)
OUPUT 3: Marketing and events
- Within a given budget, and together with the Regional Editor, West Africa and Strategic Initiatives Editor, build a marketing and brand awareness plan for Nigeria and West Africa
- Support Strategic Initiatives Manager and West African team to implement the annual marketing plan
- Coordinate and manage, together with regional teams, and in line with strategic objectives, events, dialogues and other forms of convening on behalf of TC-Africa.
- Monitor the research sector in the region, and identify events and other opportunities for TC Africa to be present to build its brand.
OUTPUT 4: Republishers
- Work with the Audience Development team to build working relationships with key republishing partners in the West African region
OUTPUT 5: Other development activities
- Lead and support other brand development activities such as: media liaison, events, promotion of editorial initiatives and others.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, preferably in the non-profit or higher education environment
- A communications or marketing degree or relevant equivalent
- Experience in public relations, preferably in the higher education or non-profit organisation environment
- More than 5 years experience
- French language skills would be a significant advantage
- Knowledge of the African higher education and research environment
- A network of contacts and familiarity with key experts and publications in preferred field
- Planning and organisational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Ability to form and maintain relationships through teamwork and networking
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- Creativity to communicate in different ways
- Marketing skills
- Data analysis and presentation skills
- Proficient in MS Office especially Excel
- Flexibility
