Reports To: Head of Editorial Innovation
Salary: $100,000+ negotiable
Hours: full-time, Monday - Friday office hours, with some flexibility required for out of hours / weekend work

What we’re looking for:
The Conversation is expanding its audio output. We’re looking for an experienced podcast producer to lead and shape our podcasts (The Conversation Weekly and the serial The Making Of) and develop, pitch and build new shows.
You’ll be ambitious, full of ideas, creative, sharp and competitive. You’ll have excellent editorial judgement and a commitment to editorial independence and impartiality. You’ll have the skills and experience to roll up your sleeves and produce a show and the ability to take a step back and shape our audio strategy. You’ll monitor the performance of the show/s, stay across industry developments and build our podcast audience.
You’ll be thinking about how to adapt our podcasts for a video audience and, ideally, the skills to do this. And you’ll be thinking about how to shape podcasts to play to our strength: academic expertise with journalistic flair.
The Conversation is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We particularly encourage applications from people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, First Nations applicants and people with lived experience of disability.
Key selection criteria:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and produce compelling podcasts in an editorial setting
- Strong editorial judgement with an understanding of what makes a podcast flow
- Ability to meet tight deadlines, manage your time and juggle multiple projects
- Proficiency with audio editing programs and ideally video editing skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Creativity, care and attention to detail
- Commitment to editorial independence, accuracy and ethical journalism.
