About the Melbourne Dental School
The Melbourne Dental School is a one of six schools within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences, which is organised into five sections for teaching and research purposes. The Mission of the Melbourne Dental School is to be a world-class, research-based school, offering education of the highest quality and to play a leading national and international role with particular relevance to the Asia-Pacific region.

About the Role
The Lecturer in Orthodontics is responsible for innovative teaching of orthodontics to Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) students, participation in curriculum design, and supervision of student research projects. They will also be required to contribute to the DCD Orthodontics program as directed by the Head of Orthodontics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials and seminars and contribute to high quality curriculum development, evaluation and review.
  • Set assessment and mark student work in the area of Orthodontics appropriately linked to learning outcomes
  • Subject coordination including the scheduling of lectures, preparation and marking of examinations.
  • Identification of sources of funding to support individual or collaborative projects, relating to teaching, research and engagement practice in the discipline


About You
You will be a committed, engaging teacher and researcher with outstanding communication skills. You will also be highly organised with the ability to mange competing priorities and deadlines.

You will also have:

  • A primary dental qualification registrable with the Dental Board of Australia and a specialist qualification in Orthodontics registrable with the Dental Board of Australia, or able to be deemed equivalent to an Australian DCD.
  • A profile in teaching and scholarly activity as evidenced by the ability to develop assessment materials linked to learning outcomes, as well as the capacity to develop teaching materials, deliver lectures, and facilitate tutorials
  • Demonstrated clinical or other teaching experience of Orthodontics at undergraduate/DDS level
