The UNSW Bushfire research group seeks to improve understanding of bushfire and associated processes, and their relation to firefighter and community safety. We conduct fundamental and applied research into bushfire behaviour and propagation, including coupled and dynamic effects. We aim to develop scientifically rigorous models that integrate with fire safety and risk management systems. We also work with external stakeholders to put our findings into practice.
As a Research Associate you will work with members of the Bushfire Research Group and with ACT Government stakeholders to develop and apply rigorous computational models of ember storms on the urban fringes of the ACT.
You will contribute to improving the safety and resilience of bushfire prone communities and develop productive collaborative relationships within UNSW and with government stakeholders.

Role: Research Associate in Bushfire Science
Salary: Level A step 6: $99,325 plus 17% Superannuation
Term: Fixed term 24 months

About the Successful Applicants
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have a PhD, with experience in conducting atmospheric modelling or computational fluid dynamics simulations in a similar area.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct innovative and independent research.
- Will have excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Emerging stakeholder engagement and management skills
- Keen to develop new skills using geographical information system software
