Who are we?
Deakin is a cutting-edge public university in Victoria, revolutionising education with 61,000 students across five campuses: Melbourne Burwood, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront, Warrnambool, and our dynamic online Campus. We're proud to be a progressive and open-minded university, delivering the highest student satisfaction in Victoria and consistently ranked in the top 1% of the world's universities.
Deakin’s School of Psychology is one of the largest and most progressive psychology departments in Australia. We offer accredited programs in Psychology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Associate Professor will bring academic leadership and high-level research expertise to the School. They will be expected to have a national and international profile, with a well-established track record of high impact publications and other outputs, effective team building and leadership, service to the discipline and a clear ability to attract external funding through both competitive grants and industry partnerships that aligns with the strategic research priorities of the School. While this position is expected to have a strong research focus, in the context of the Workload Allocation Model and achievements in research, there will also be a small teaching component in a relevant area and thus teaching experience is essential.
The Associate Professor will bring their applied experience in one or more areas of child, adolescent and family mental health, geropsychology, neurodevelopmental disorders, clinical interventions, or psychological assessment in developing and co-ordinating postgraduate programs and make senior level contribution to the teaching programs of the School.
The incumbent will report to the Head of School and will interact regularly with other research and teaching staff within the School and the Faculty. They can expect to be an active member of the SEED Lifespan Strategic Research Centre and to collaborate with other researchers in the School, and more broadly in the Faculty and University. They will liaise with students at all levels.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- PhD or professional doctorate in the relevant discipline area
- Nationally and internationally recognised research reputation in an area aligned with a research priority of the School and underpinned by publications in high quality journals
- Demonstrated achievements in child, adolescent and family mental health, geropsychology, neurodevelopmental disorders, clinical interventions, or psychological assessment
- Evidence of ability to attract and successfully complete external research funding through competitive external grants and industry partnerships that align with an area of research priority of the School
- Successful engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national and international standing of the discipline
