About the role
The University of Melbourne Node of the ARC Centre of Excellence in the Dynamics of Language, based in the School of Languages and Linguistics, is seeking a Research Support Officer to coordinate and carry out core administrative functions of the University of Melbourne Node in close collaboration with Melbourne-based Centre researchers and other professional staff in the Centre, School and Faculty.
Administered by The Australian National University, the Centre includes three collaborating institutions: The University of Melbourne; the University of Queensland; University of Western Sydney (The MARCS Institute), as well as several partner institutions. The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language (CoEDL) has an ambitious series of interlinked projects, focusing on language as a dynamic and variable system, and drawing on the full diversity of the world’s languages through four programs focusing on the design space of language (Shape), how it is learned (Learning) and processed (Processing), and how linguistic structures evolve at various timescales (Evolution). Two ‘threads’ (Archiving, and Research technologies) will enable the technological advances needed to drive forward the language sciences in the coming decades.
The Research Support Officer will be responsible for providing day-to-day operational management of the University of Melbourne node including managing the finances of the Centre with the node leader, collating and preparing data for inclusion in the annual report and other reporting requirements for the Centre Executive Committee, general administrative support and coordination with other nodes. The incumbent will also be responsible for the provision of high-level support for the management of existing grants, project management of the Unit’s engagement activities and development of competitive grant applications.
About you
The successful applicant will have substantial experience in coordinating several budget lines, managing complex budgets, preparing financial reports, developing administrative procedures, and providing policy, procedural and planning advice to staff and key stakeholders. You will also have excellent communication and stakeholder relationship management skills, along with the demonstrated ability to effectively prioritise and manage multiple concurrent tasks and projects.

Located in the Faculty of Arts, the School of Languages and Linguistics was formed in 1993 and hosts the following teaching and research programs: French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and European Studies, as well as Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and English as a Second Language.
