Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) is a specialist team dedicated to enabling the University's research and enterprise mission working closely with our academics, professional colleagues, industry partners, funding agencies and government agencies. About the role

The Technology Transfer & Licensing Officer reports to the Technology Transfer Team Lead, MDHS in the Technology Transfer & Licensing (TTL) team within the Business Development & Innovation (BDI) group. TTL is responsible for supporting the technology transfer and licensing activities of RIC and its associated relationships with venture funding bodies and industry partners.

Working closely with the Business Development team within BDI, as well as the Technology Transfer Team Lead, MDHS, this role has a particular emphasis on assessing invention disclosures for patentability and commercial potential, facilitating IP protection and identifying commercial partners or creating start-up companies to develop and exploit the University's innovative technologies.

The role is focussed broadly on inventions relating to the life science disciplines which may arise from any department, school or faculty of the University but typically those developed by researchers based in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS).

About you

You will have:

  • Broad sector experience in the medicine and life science disciplines, as evidenced by a relevant tertiary degree with hands-on scientific research experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.

  • Understanding of different intellectual property types, including copyrights, software, know-how or trade secrets patent rights, and in particular the fundamentals of obtaining patent protection for technologies

  • Experience in conducting technical, IP, commercial and legal due diligence, including prior art searches and market analyses for invention disclosures

  • Experience in collecting and analysing complex technical, market and legal data and information in support of the developing business cases for commercialisation opportunities

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and/or reviewing commercialisation transactions. Further experience in the drafting and negotiation of term sheets and patent and/or software licence agreements would be advantageous
