About the Role 

The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music seeks to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Music (Performance - Percussion) who will bring imaginative and innovative perspectives to build on the Conservatorium's distinguished tradition of music performance. The duties include recruiting high quality percussion students into the Bachelor of Music and Graduate programs and making significant contributions to teaching and coordination of these programs. The appointee will maintain a significant national and international performance profile; and will develop an active research profile.

The appointee will also teach one-to-one lessons and masterclasses for percussion students, coordinate and lead percussion ensemble activities, support the percussion needs of the Symphonic Ensembles and other ensembles in the Conservatorium, and may also develop and deliver new elective and/or breadth subjects. Additional duties will include auditioning prospective percussion students, supervising and marking undergraduate and graduate performance examinations, supervising graduate students in percussion and contributions to supervision for other performance students and contribution to curriculum development.

About you 

You will hold a doctoral degree in percussion performance, or an equivalent record of professional experience and accomplishment. You will have an outstanding profile in the field of music performance, including evidence of significant professional solo, chamber, and orchestral engagements. You will possess considerable expertise in percussion teaching at the University level, and across a variety of percussion repertoires and practices. You will also have a demonstrated ability to recruit students to a University music program and the capacity to assess auditions and music performance examinations.

Based in the beautiful Southbank Campus of The University of Melbourne, you will work in the spectacular new Ian Potter Southbank Centre, nestled amongst Melbourne's major arts and cultural organisations and venues. You will have the convenience of great transport links to the rest of the city with the serenity of the Botanical Gardens close by.
