The Opportunity

The University of Melbourne is seeking an outstanding Academic with research leadership in cyber security, to join an internationally recognised group of academics within the Melbourne School of Engineering.

You will be joining a vibrant and research-intensive school in one of the world's leading universities and will work closely with members of the University of Melbourne Academic Centre of Cyber Security Excellence (UoM ACCSE) - one of two such national centres funded by the Commonwealth of Australia. The university also has close engagement in cyber security with the Oceania Cyber Security Centre, involving eight Victorian universities, the Victorian-based Defence Science Institute, and various private sector and government entities.

The University seeks an internationally-leading cybersecurity expert with industry and/or academic background. Relevant areas of cyber security expertise include (but are not limited to) cryptography and secure protocols, privacy, security analytics (such as machine learning for cyber), formal methods for the design and testing of secure systems, or security management. Candidates will have an international profile and possess outstanding ability to navigate university, industry and government environments. Applicants will, in addition to demonstrating exceptional communication skills, need to have a real flair for strategy setting and for advancing research in an exciting, use-inspired, multidisciplinary environment ready for significant growth. Applicants will need to have a substantial track record of attracting funding and building meaningful engagement with industry and government in cyber security.

As a senior member of the School of Computing and Information Systems, you will help foster relationships across the university and with industry and will make a significant contribution to leadership within the School of Computing and Information Systems. You will ensure that research, teaching and engagement activities are flourishing, and act as a mentor for staff. You will also actively collaborate in research within the School and wider University and be expected to engage with industry and government. This position includes regular interaction with the Head of School and the Dean of Engineering or delegate.
