We are seeking an enthusiastic Aboriginal Health Practitioner to join our research team as a Geraldton-based, Aboriginal Care Coordinator, on a healthy lifestyle project that has the potential to improve the health and wellbeing of older Aboriginal Australians. We have been funded to develop and deliver an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) based Dementia Prevention and Risk Management Program for Aboriginal Australians (DAMPAA).
The Centre of Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health was established to assist the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences promote the concept of holistic health care and cultural security in relation to Aboriginal health and health care practice, research and learning. The Centre is located in Shenton House on the main UWA campus, however this position will be based at the Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (GRAMS).
The Opportunity As an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, you will contribute to a project aiming to improve the brain health of older Aboriginal people. You will assist with on-the-ground research activities such as assisting in the recruitment and screening of older Aboriginal research participants, health data collection, facilitating research participant's engagement in the project, and keeping accurate records. In addition, you will raise awareness of our work in the community.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will hold an Aboriginal Health Worker qualification such as an Aboriginal Health Training Certificate IV (or equivalent training and experience) along with current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration. You will also demonstrate relevant experience as an Aboriginal Health Worker/Practitioner with an ability to work closely and respectfully with older Aboriginal community members, Aboriginal health services and other stakeholders. A Current Western Australian driver's licence, access to a vehicle and occasional travel within Geraldton will also be required.
