About the Role

The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM) seeks to appoint a part-time (0.5 FTE) Research Fellow for a fixed term of 3 years. This role will contribute to a current project funded by the Australian Research Council's Discovery Project scheme entitled: 'Social cohesion and resilience through intercultural music engagement'. The role includes assisting in the development, execution and analysis of surveys and qualitative studies of existing or newly formed intercultural music ensembles. The Research Fellow will collaborate on publications and be involved fully in the intellectual life of the project. The Fellow will also assist with the co-ordination of relevant symposia and engage in public outreach and will gain experience in co-supervision of a PhD student.

About you

You will hold a PhD degree in a relevant discipline and topic (e.g. music and anthropology, psychology, sociology, urban geography). The appointee will have excellent quantitative and qualitative research skills with a demonstrated capacity for multidisciplinary and collaborative research. The appointee will also possess strong interpersonal skills which facilitate collaborative research.

The Team

Working under the supervision of Lead Chief Investigator (CI), Professor Davidson, the successful candidate will be expected to engage with the team's other national CI, Professor Bill Thompson (Macquarie University), and international partner investigators, Professor Tia DeNora (Exeter), Professors Martin Clayton and Tuomas Eerola (both at Durham).

Based in the beautiful Southbank Campus of The University of Melbourne, you will work nestled amongst Melbourne's major arts and cultural organisations and venues. You will have the convenience of great transport links to the rest of the city with the serenity of the Botanical Gardens close by.
