Fixed term, full time position available for 3 years
A unique opportunity to conduct research in collaboration with a major mining industry partner to deliver new methods for automating variography and to work closely with industry on a highly relevant industry priority project. There is also the possibility of spending some of the research project time within the sponsoring company.
You would work in an area of critical relevance to the future development of the mining industry.
To be successful you will need:
Associate Lecturer – Level A:
- A PhD (or equivalent post-doctoral qualification) in geostatistics or spatial modelling as applied to mineral resource and geological modelling; or in mining engineering or resource geology with postgraduate courses in geostatistics or spatial statistics. Alternatively, we would consider a post-doctoral qualification in mathematics or computer science with the ability to acquire sufficient background knowledge of the mineral resource and geological context of the research project. In both cases, an ability to apply, adapt and develop rapid, automated methods of extracting spatial correlation from large three-dimensional data sets or the ability to acquire this expertise in the short-term.
- The ability to conduct research in modelling and quantifying spatial variability, preferably as applied to mineral resources. In particular, an ability to evaluate and develop novel, rapid methods for automating the modelling process.
- Good programming skills.
- Strong inter-personal communication skills, fluency in written and spoken English.
- The ability to work individually and as a member of a team working in new methods of resource modelling and model updating.
Lecturer – Level B:
- Advanced demonstrated experience in line with Level A criteria listed above
- Excellent programming skills.
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team through collaborative stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience working in new methods of resource modelling and model updating and, where appropriate, to take to a leading role in the direction of the research.
