The Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute (MSSI) is one of four Melbourne Interdisciplinary Research Institutes (MIRIs) at the University of Melbourne, overseen by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research). The Climate Reality Project (TCRP) is a worldwide climate action organisation, founded by former US Vice President Al Gore following the global success of his film An Inconvenient Truth. Climate Reality's base in Australia and the Pacific is hosted by MSSI at the University of Melbourne. Climate Reality are a lean and enthusiastic team, who value good humour, teamwork, adaptability and meticulousness in supporting individuals and institutions acting on climate change to keep global warming to 1.5°C.
The Climate Reality Project Officer will make a contribution to identifying the next generation of Climate Reality Leaders (CRLs), alongside providing ongoing support for TCRP's current CRL community. The role is tasked with helping build and implement a Leadership Development Framework for an 1800 strong network of individuals who are passionate about and active in making a difference on climate change. It also encompasses the opportunity to help shape Climate Reality's participant base and communication strategy within the Australasian region.
In June 2019 TCRP hosted a leadership training in Brisbane with Mr Gore for 860 individuals, who join a broader cohort of 1,800 trained Climate Reality Leaders in Australia. The Climate Reality Project Officer will play an important role in continuing to support this community. This will include utilising their skills in project management, community management and communications, distributed event coordination to support activities contributing to TCRP's capacity building efforts.
This role is based in Brisbane with regular interstate travel.
The incumbent may be required to hold a valid Working with Children Check as a condition of employment in this role.
