Contemporary debates on teacher education include varied ideas around what attributes, effectiveness, professional knowledge and outcomes teachers require; how teachers should be selected to become teachers; and how they should be assessed.
Be supervised by our world-leading researchers who are investigating and critiquing national teacher education agendas, teacher performance assessment, and the concepts of workforce and classroom “readiness”. The Teacher Education and Professional Learning Research Group are looking for research students interested in the following topics:
- Ensuring classroom readiness in teacher education
- Professional learning for quality teaching
- Regional, rural and remote education
- International comparative studies of teacher education: Policy and practice
- Primary specialisations
- Teaching English to speakers of other languages.
- Ensuring employment context readiness in early childhood teacher education
- Curriculum studies for classroom readiness and inclusion
Responding to external agencies
- Standards and accreditation reform in initial teacher education
- Understanding evidence of impact: methodologies linking initial teacher education to teacher performance
- The experiences of Highly Accomplished and Lead teachers
- Teaching for social justice and diversity
- Social justice in initial teacher education and/or professional learning: Classroom-ready teachers for diverse and disadvantaged communities
- Exploring graduate teachers' preparedness to teach children from diverse learning groups: Understanding professional decision making through the lens of epistemic reflexivity
- Exploring early childhood graduate teachers’ preparedness and willingness to teach children in a range of early childhood settings, including prior to school long day care.
Professional and practice-based learning
- Professional experience in initial teacher education
- Promoting preservice teachers’ preparedness to teach children from diverse learning groups: a focus on reflexivity in professional experience.
- Evaluating professional learning partnerships designed to support early career teachers
- Promoting and supporting quality professional experience placements in prior to school early childhood settings, including long day care
Because scholarship numbers are limited, QUT conducts one highly competitive scholarship selection round each year. If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, you must apply for a research course before the closing date of the annual scholarship round (30 September 2019 for studies commencing in 2020), and indicate on your course application that you want to be considered for one of our main scholarships.
