The Role and Your Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean of the School, the Associate Dean, Social Work and Human Services is a critical leadership and management role responsible for driving learning and teaching quality, research relevance and industry engagement for the discipline with programs in Social Work, Youth Work and Social Science Psychology. The Associate Dean will be accountable for providing strategic and academic leadership and management, consistent with RMIT's strategic plans and objectives, to the discipline(s) within Social Work and Human Services and for contributing at a senior level to the strategic planning and development of the School. This is a key role leading a team of approximately twenty ongoing staff with both research and academic program leadership for the discipline area. You will assure program and course quality within the University policies and external compliance requirements. You will oversee the work of the Program Managers and work with them to manage the development and renewal of the curriculum. Strong partnerships with key external organisations are essential for the teaching programs in these applied disciplines and developing and maintaining these relationships is a key part of this role. You will also be required to work closely with the Associate Dean, Research and the Director of the Social and Global Studies Centre to foster research in the discipline area and improve the reputation and profile of the university. In this role you will be a member of the School Executive team which advises the Dean and involves collaboration with all members of the School management team and staff across the school to ensure that the strategic objectives are met.
Skills & Experience Required
To be successful in the role, you will possess strong leadership skills and experience in leading and managing academic teams in a collegiate environment to deliver strategic objectives. You will bring with you a well-developed understanding of budget management, quality management, and good governance. The School will value your capacity to think strategically based on organisational priorities and objectives whilst displaying a high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills. These skills will be required for your interactions with senior executives and external bodies and your involvement with cross disciplinary and cross-sectoral teams. Your leadership and expertise in learning and teaching along with your substantial academic, research and relevant professional achievement will contribute to the overall standing of the School both nationally and internationally.
