About the role

The Senior Software Developer, Research & Teaching Platforms is a member of the Science IT Team which provides IT Services to the Faculty of Science. The Senior Software Developer, Research & Teaching Platforms is responsible for leading the development and maintenance of custom specialised software, including for web and mobile platforms, used in scientific research and teaching by clients of the Faculty of Science. Reporting to the Manager of IT Service Delivery, Research and Teaching, the Senior Software Developer, Senior Software Developer, Research & Teaching Platforms will have responsibility for the delivery of a couple of software projects per year that enhance teaching and research aspects and for providing technical leadership to junior team members.

About you

  • Completion of a tertiary qualification in Information Technology or related discipline (i.e. Software Engineering) and substantial experience in software development; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • Experience in working in a large, complex and dynamic service-oriented, research intensive environment.
  • Demonstrated experience to develop sustainable software applications using a variety of programming languages (HTML & CSS, JavaScript , PHP, Python, Ruby) and web frameworks (Django, Node.js, Ruby on Rails).
  • Experience with building, deploying and maintaining applications on Linux (RedHat / Ubuntu). Familiarity with web server (Apache, Nginx, Tomcat) and database technologies (SQL) on Linux.
  • Demonstrated experience in using version control systems, in particular git, and Continuous Delivery
