Phd Candidate

at Western Sydney University - Graduate Research School

The Centre for Research in Mathematics (CRM) at Western Sydney University has strengths across the spectrum of data science, applied mathematics, and pure mathematics. Researchers in CRM seek to produce excellence in research outcomes, engaging in collaborations that cross institutions, disciplines, and the divide between industry and academia. This recognises that our disciplines are fundamental across a wide range of human endeavour.

We are offering a research scholarship to a highly motivated PhD student seeking to work with our data science team, on a topic to be negotiated with the potential principal supervisor. Our team conducts research both in the theoretical aspects of data science, such as computational statistics and machine learning methods (for example deep learning and reinforcement learning), as well as in problems arising from applications across a very broad spectrum of partners in business and government.

The project will be based at Western Sydney University's Parramatta South campus.

Potential candidates are encouraged to approach members of CRM's data science team (Dr Yi Guo, Professor Paul Hurley, Associate Professor Oliver Obst, Dr Laurence Park), to discuss their ideas for projects before applying.
