The group is providing transformational change, defining and influencing future service enhancements, and acts as a shared services function within the University of Melbourne.

About the role

The purpose of this position is to lead and contribute to the expertise of a shared engineering team which supports the operations of the Doherty Institute. This new position has been created to ensure the facility is operating at its full potential and supporting the objectives of the Joint Venture Agreement which governs the operations of the Institute. This includes providing technical expertise to a team of mixed engineering and maintenance personnel from both partners, in accordance with University Services policies and procedures and other compliance responsibilities of each partner.

About you

  • You will have tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline and extensive experience in a relevant field.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and multi-disciplinary team building capability.

  • Management experience enabling operation under broad direction and a high degree of autonomy.

  • Demonstrated expertise with a broad range of building, laboratory and engineering services enabling the ability to identify and diagnose faults with mechanical, electrical, and other essential services, and document risk management processes.

  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a strong team of engineering professionals, researchers and administrators.

  • Competence with use of Direct Digital Control Systems and Information Management Systems for Facilities, Research, Environmental and Engineering Services.

  • Knowledge of High Containment Facilities, associated Regulatory bodies, compliance, environmental and Health & Safety issues.

  • Proven ability to thrive in a changing and fast paced environment.
