About MSE Facilities

Our campuses are a central part of the University and provide bespoke infrastructure and technology for research, teaching, learning and engagement. Our Facilities team works across our beautiful historic Parkville campus and is committed to providing technical and safety support needed for the day-to-day operations at MSE. By working closely with University Services, we ensure maintenance and building works are completed efficiently and effectively.

About the Role

We know that technical support for our Laboratories is a big task. This is why we need a dedicated and passionate Laboratory Technical Officer to join our busy Coursework Team for a two year assignment. As a valued team member, you will be responsible for the preparation of practical classes held in our wet laboratories by providing technical support to our teachers, contributing to the development of coursework and maintaining equipment in all the wet labs.

You will have a direct impact to the quality of our teaching for practical wet lab classes and you will be considered the go to person for all technical support. You'll work with a wide range of stakeholders including teaching staff, students and research groups to help solve complex technical problems they face by offering practical solutions to their questions. You also have a sharp eye for identifying improvements, maintaining and servicing equipment and creating work instructions to ensure the smooth operation of the labs.

What you'll need

To be successful, you will need a degree in Chemical Engineering. You will have experience in industrial scientific labs or chemical labs using a wide range of teaching-based equipment. You will bring strong technical knowledge through your education and practical experience to work across a range of labs including Biomedical, Chemical, Environmental, Civil and Mechanical Engineering.

The MSE laboratories are always full of activity and you will bring an ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a customer service mindset. You will have passion for your work and show initiative in ways to help us keep our laboratories at the standard of leading research and teaching space.
