Research Repository Specialist

The Research Repository Specialist assists DST to manage and preserve research publications and research data by implementing, customising and maintaining the repositories for DST Science & Technology Publications and Research Data. The incumbent will work closely with technology specialists, librarians and other project staff to ensure the integrity and appropriate security of research data and information and to support the discovery and re-use of research data and information across DST and Defence.

The Research Repository Specialist will have experience in the management of web-based applications, including experience in the analysis and resolution of application issues. In addition to a sound knowledge of systems administration the position requires a broad knowledge across multiple technology areas such as data storage, data curation, digital preservation, metadata schema or information management. Formal qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology or Information Management are necessary.

Assessment criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology or Information Management.

  2. Demonstrated understanding of web technologies such as HTML, XML, CSS, Python, PHP, PostgreSQL, Java or similar.

  3. Strong working knowledge of data or metadata manipulation, curation and management.

  4. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of systems administration, maintenance and development.

  5. Experience working in research computing environments, particularly with Virtual Machines.

  6. Understanding of the research process, including research knowledge products.

  7. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively via email, videoconference and in person.

  8. Demonstrated ability to think creatively and develop novel solutions to complex technology issues.
