The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a member of the prestigious Group-of-Eight research-intensive Universities. With a reputation for international excellence and ranked in the top 100 Universities in the world, UWA's continued success is on target for its longer term goal of reaching the world top 50 by 2050.
UWA has recently established a new institute focussed on Western Australia, the Indian Ocean region and the Indo-Pacific, aimed at maximising UWA's contribution to policy impact, not only in education and research and in specific disciplines, but in the geo-political and economic context.
Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the Director will drive the development of the UWA Public Policy Institute, working with key partners internally and externally to maximise the translation of UWA research into policy impact. This will involve creating opportunities for UWA research to have an impact on policy; strengthening capacity in policy engagement internally; and ensuring that the University's planning and strategic thinking takes into account and facilitates policy impact more broadly.
With a demonstrated record of leadership and strategic vision, candidates will have the ability and energy to facilitate and promote the engagement of UWA academics with key policy makers. A strong commitment to working collegially with senior leaders, to ensure their active involvement in public policy activities and political awareness are essential, as are excellent interpersonal skills.
