Salary: $69,148 - $93,830 p.a. plus 9.5% superannuation

We are seeking a Research Fellow to join the research program of Associate Professor Christopher McDevitt within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Peter Doherty Institute. The research program seeks to elucidate the role of metal ions in host-pathogen interaction and involves close collaborations with the University of Queensland, University of Technology Sydney and La Trobe University.

This role, Research Fellow, will report to Associate Professor Christopher McDevitt and will conduct studies examining how the trafficking of zinc, copper and other metal ions contributes to host antimicrobial responses against Streptococcus pneumoniae. The research will focus on investigating this in the context of phagocytic cells while also examining the bacterial pathways that enable subversion of these mechanisms.

The research program will employ a combination of biochemical, molecular and cellular techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to design, undertake and analyse experiments of independent and original research. The successful applicant will also assist in the training and mentoring of junior staff, Honours and PhD students.
