University Engagement Manager

at Open Universities Australia

• Pivotal role in building academic engaging partnerships

• Develop Student Engagement Insights

• Melbourne CBD Location

Open Universities Australia (OUA) is Australia’s leading online education company. Owned by seven Australian public universities (Curtin University, Griffith University, Macquarie University, Monash University, RMIT University, Swinburne University and University of South Australia) in equal shares, OUA has been in existence since being part of the Keating Government’s “Creative Nation” election platform in the 1993 Federal Election. At its inception, the Open Learning Agency (as we were then known) offered university units via late night spectrum on the ABC and SBS. Since then, we have undergone a number of transformations in terms of how we deliver high quality education to students who are not able to physically attend campus-based modes of education and /or who actually prefer to study online.

OUA is transforming its business model from being an online reseller of higher education units and programs of its shareholders and other university providers, to being the operator of a multi-sided platform that brings together students, universities, textbook suppliers, exam services providers, tuition/tutorial suppliers and other participants in a digital marketplace. This role has been specifically designed to develop and deliver academic engagement opportunities within an environment of change and evolution across the academic provider’s needs/expectations and the platform’s maturity.

Reporting into the Head of Portfolio and Providers, you will have a comprehensive understanding of the higher education sector, online education trends, award programs and discipline areas. Leading a team of 3 (with potential to grow), you will define the approach and range of coordinated initiatives that the Academic Partnerships Managers (team on the ground) have at their disposal. The primary accountabilities are:

  • Identify, develop and continually champion academic engagement opportunities for OUA.

  • Develop and produce guidance, frameworks and resources to aid the thinking, development and enhancement of online educational products.

  • Create and leverage and knowledge share opportunities (events, online community, and development and maintenance of Communities of Practice).

  • Understanding of individual university frameworks / policies so as to inform OUA’s positions on policies and procedures.

  • Policy Development, Implementation and oversight, including Portfolio Optimization (such as Pathways, CSP Eligibility), and Portfolio Governance to enable optimal flow of new programs from Providers.

  • Management of Rapid Development Fund, policy and criteria, credit transfer, RPL, and / or Equivalency policies and process development / oversight to ensure that OUA has procedures in place to monitor credit arrangements with Providers.

  • Oversee Student data collection and reporting as we aim to offer our Providers greater insights into their products performance and students we bring to their programs.

  • Oversee Provider’s Continuous Improvement Action plan commitments with the objective to improve student satisfaction and help increase enrolments (and revenue) for Providers.

  • Monitor unit KPIs and oversee reporting.

  • Provide suggestions / research / resources to aid KPI underperformance.

  • Develop and maintain precedence bank of best practice and resources to aid automation of Action Plans.

To be successful in this role, you must have substantial experience in policy development, learning design and/or quality assurance in the tertiary education sector. You will have demonstrable experience in engaging/influencing both internal and external stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into tactical deliverables. Leading by example, you will be adept at managing a team focussed on planning, customer relationship management and sales pipeline development within a fast growing organisation. Experiences in digital/online businesses or within platform models would be highly desirable. As an individual, you will display strong outcome orientation, focus, perseverance and goal orientation skills.
