The role and your responsibilities

The Manager Intellectual Property works with the Associate Director of Intellectual Property and Commercialisation and the team to implement the University's goals, including the intellectual property plan and operational frameworks, achieving objectives and deliverables in line with the broader University strategy. The position is responsible for assisting to improve RMIT's impact through its intellectual property portfolio. This includes implementing, maintaining and continuously improving project and knowledge management systems and documentation, providing expert advice on intellectual property to RMIT researchers - including running education programmes for staff and students and critically analysing invention disclosures. The role will also use innovative and engaging communication methods to leverage knowledge, develop mutually productive collaborations, accurately report on the outputs and impact of research generating commercial interest and government and support.

Skills and experience required

The ideal candidate will bring to the role professional skills and knowledge of intellectual property, market research and commercialisation. Your demonstrated success in strategic project management including planning, resource allocation, communication, implementation, negotiation, evaluation and reporting will be critical. Furthermore, key to this role will be your demonstrated ability in the development and implementation of project and knowledge management systems and documentation, and monitoring these for continuous improvement. Your experience in communicating and educating diverse groups in intellectual property matters will essential. A relevant degree and/or experience with intellectual property and commercialisation in a University or large organisation is required. A PhD in a science or engineering field and/or a degree in business is preferred.
