About Student and Scholarly Services
Student and Scholarly Services (SASS) provides student administration and services from recruitment and point of enquiry to graduation. This team also delivers wellbeing and scholarly services to students and staff. This role is in Student Equity and Disability Services (SEDS) as part of the Wellbeing Services portfolio.
About the Role
As the Disability Services Specialist, you will play a key role in the provision and coordination of strategies and services that ensure students requiring educational adjustments, which may also include instrumental support, can participate fully in their academic pursuits at the University of Melbourne. The role includes liaison with various areas of the university services. The incumbent will consult and facilitate in the assessment of support that the university can implement for academic success.
In a typical week at work, you may:
- Be a subject matter expert in disability, including key mental health issues in the tertiary education sector
- Facilitate meetings with registered students for ongoing support to identify and monitor educational adjustments against their needs as outlined in their Academic Adjustment Plan
- Provide more extensive support to a small case load of students
About You
You will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to build effective working relationships within and across teams. You will also have strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills, paired with strong attention to details and sound organisational and task management skills.
Ideally, you will further have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification, such as social work or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training ideally in the disability field
- Demonstrated experience in the disability and equity field, in the delivery of services and strategies to remove barriers to equitable participation in tertiary education
- Demonstrated experience in providing more extensive support in a case load, and ability to engage with students with a wide range of disabilities
- Demonstrated experience in the recruitment of a casual workforce
- Demonstrated experience in training others in disability and inclusive practice
